How it is checked
UK: PECR lets you cold email people at limited companies and LLPs with an opt-out; sole traders, partnerships and consumers need consent unless the soft opt-in applies. UK GDPR Article 14 means telling people where you got their details. US: CAN-SPAM is opt-out based but needs an honest subject, a postal address and a working unsubscribe. UAE and EU rules are consent-led with local variation.
Filters weigh sender reputation and engagement most. But stacked trigger phrases, shouty capitals, exclamation marks, lots of links, link shorteners and attachments in a first email still hurt, and they read as salesy to the human too.
Each check passes, warns or fails, weighted by how much it matters. Legal checks weigh most, and any legal fail caps the score at 59, because a well written email you cannot lawfully send is not ready.
This is guidance, not legal advice, and is accurate to our knowledge as of 2026. Rules marked check current change often or vary by country. The ICO, FTC, UAE Data Office, DIFC and ADGM Commissioners, and national EU regulators publish the current position.
